World View and Religious Diversity Trainings

Why "world view and religious" instead of "religious and spiritual" diversity? "World view" is a broad way to name how someone looks at and thinks about the world. For some, their worldview is through a religious or spiritual lens. For others, there may be a philosophical or ethical framework. At one workshop, a participant had an ah-ha moment and realized that her world view is vegan; that commitment truly guides her decisions and actions. Without the term "world view," she wouldn't have had that insight. I choose this more expansive and less familiar term to invite all participants to think differently about themselves and about the others present.

The first is designed to help participants identify their own worldviews, and then their strengths and areas for growth, in the context of their classrooms or libraries. The second workshop builds on the first, providing for creative exploration of curriculum and materials to better support all students

Healthcare providers are often in a position to hear the existential or spiritual questions or feelings of those in their care. This is a privilege, and the potential exists for great healing and great harm. Most healthcare workers are not given any training about how to approach these important conversations. This workshop invites participants to start with themselves, then to explore the variety of ways they can best help their patients and families without causing harm.
